We accept returns and exchange requests within 30 days of purchase. To process a returns request please contact us at expert@joshwoodcolour.com stating your order number and what products you would like to return. Please also advise why you would like to return them. If any products in your order arrive damaged or faulty please send photos with your email so we can investigate further.

Josh Wood Colour Permanent Colour is an award winning gentle vegan hair colour full of natural ingredients that provides an expert, natural-looking colour finish that lasts with 100% grey coverage. It smells fantastic as there is no Ammonia. The box contains all the key items you need for mess-free application, including salon grade gloves. Our products are not suitable if you want a lighter hair colour than you currently have as we don't use bleach (bleach is best in the hands of salon professionals to avoid damage).

Josh Wood Colour Shade Shot is a toner to add to our Permanent Colour for more personalised and multi-tonal finish, to add warmer or cooler tones.

Josh Wood Colour Miracle System reduces breakage 62% whilst you colour. It is made up of Permanent Colour + Shade Shot + Miracle Shot.

Josh Wood Colour Miracle Kit is Permanent Colour + Miracle Shot without the Shade Shot.

Josh Wood Colour Glosses are semi-permanent deep conditioning colour treatments to add colour to your hair for a few washes. That are designed to change tones in your lengths and ends and can be used by itself or used as a colour reviver on permanent coloured hair.

Whether you're a seasoned home hair colourer or considering giving it a go for the first time, it can be hard to know where to start on selecting the right shade. 

When colour matching it is important to know that Josh Wood Colour Permanent Colour is designed to cover grey 100% with a beautiful, modern, natural colour, and shiny, nourished hair. If you’re looking to go drastically lighter or darker than your natural colour, we always recommend visiting a salon.

Step 1: Identify your base colour

Look at the roots of your hair. Check right at the base of your parting, at the top of your head and along the hairline in your root regrowth. Even if you’re grey – you’ll still see pieces of hair that are your natural pigmented hair in this area and this the colour we want to match to.

Super important: Match the colour you’re trying to create (the colour swatch on the box) to the roots of your hair, not your ends. To get the best result, your root colour should be as close as possible to the colour you’re trying to achieve.

Step 2: How grey are you?

To assess your grey, look at the roots of your hair across the temples, underneath your hair. This is where you will see the pattern of greying. This is important because it will show you the areas you need to apply the permanent colour to first, and leave for the longest. You don’t need to apply permanent colour to your ends – they already have colour. Josh recommends only combing colour through to your ends for the last 5-10 minutes of the 30 minute process time. This prevents ends looking too dark and heavy.

Step 3: Find your perfect colour kit

Match your root colour to the image on the Permanent Colour box or to our model's hair in the pics online. Sometimes it is easier to take a photo of your hair to do this. You can then find the perfect match for you to achieve your gorgeous colour. You will find your perfect shade more easily if you focus on the images rather than the shade descriptions.

Step 4: Find your personalised tone

Elevate your base shade, with multidimensional tone, by using the Shade Shot. We all have a preference on whether we like warmer or cooler tones running through our hair, which one do you prefer?

For Brunettes shade 4-6

Chestnut Brunette Shade Shot will bring out warming, autumnal highs and lows.

Shade Shot is a unique colour innovation that allows you to customise your colour finish and add a rich mix of tones that are personal to you. It is solely for use with the Josh Wood Colour Permanent Hair kit.
All you need to do is follow these simple steps:

1) Make sure you complete an Allergy Alert Test with both your chosen colour kit and shade shot 48 hours prior to application.

If you notice any abnormal reactions during the Allergy Alert Test 48 hour period such as itching, redness or swelling in or around the test area DO NOT APPLY THE PRODUCT.

If you do not experience a reaction to your Allergy Alert Test proceed to step 2.

2) From your colour kit, put on your salon professional gloves.

3) Squeeze the entire contents of Tube A into Bottle B. 

4) Squeeze the entire contents of the Shade Shot into Bottle B.

5) Secure the lid back on to bottle B and shake vigorously to ensure all components are mixed together.

6) Apply colour as per the colour kit instructions.

It's important to perform an Allergy Alert Test each time you colour your hair, even if you’ve used at home hair dye before and had no reaction, as skin can develop an allergy over time.

An allergic reaction can consist of itchy skin, redness or even blisters on your scalp, so it’s really important to do an Allergy Alert (Patch) Test to avoid these. DO NOT use the product if you experience any reaction. 

Follow these simple steps 48 hours prior to applying colour to your hair:

1) Mix a coin-sized amount of the colour formula (A) and activator (B), plus the same sized amount of the Shade Shot (if adding for a personalised finish) and mix together in a bowl.

Tip: It’s very important to fasten the caps on the bottles tightly after you have opened them for the Allergy Alert Test, to prevent the products oxidising and ensure the active ingredients will work after the test.

2) Use a cotton bud to apply a small amount behind your ear. Or use a cotton wool pad wrapped around the pointed tip of the colour brush in our Accessories Kit. 

3) Dispose of leftover product down the sink, with running water. Leave the water running slightly longer after disposing of contents to ensure all product has gone. 

4) Leave it on for 48 hours before washing off. You shouldn’t even notice it’s there. 

If you have any signs of reaction, wash it off immediately and do not use the permanent colour. Please do contact us at expert@joshwoodcolour.com if this is the case and we will happily refund you for the product.

If you show no signs of reaction to the dye, it is your all clear to go ahead and use your perfect shade match as instructed.

Colouring your hair when you are pregnant or breastfeeding is perfectly safe.

As always, it is very important to carry out an Allergy Alert Test 48 hours before colouring your hair.

If you have any concerns, we recommend that you speak with your doctor for further reassurance and advice prior to colouring.

Due to the gentle formulation, technique application is key to cover all greys. 

We have 3 top tips for best application:

1) Apply the colour to your hair by placing and patting it on to your roots. Avoid massaging or rubbing it in - this will ensure all regrowth is covered.

2) Make sure you create even sections for your hair thickness throughout - the best way to do is to check you can see the colour from the last section coming through when starting a new section.

3) Apply colour liberally to roots where you have stubborn greys.

Josh Wood Colour's Miracle range has been designed to strengthen coloured hair and reduces breakage 62%.

The Josh Wood Colour Miracle System includes a Permanent Hair Colour Kit to colour your hair, a Shade Shot to provide personalised tone and a Miracle Shot to reduce breakage.

The Miracle Kit includes a Permanent Hair Colour Kit to colour your hair and a Miracle Shot to reduce breakage. It does not include a Shade Shot.

Miracle Mask, Miracle Shampoos and Miracle Conditioners are specially designed to care for your coloured hair for optimal health and protection so colour lasts and breakage is reduced. Our hair care products are vegan-friendly, Sulphate free and packed with natural active ingredients and our signature Colour Shine Complex of Quinoa Extract, Green Walnut and UV filters.

The Miracle Shot is designed to be added to our Permanent Colour and not to be used alone.

Our permanent colour is very kind and conditioning on your hair, but there is only so much you can add to the formula to maintain its stability. To ensure maximum efficacy of the Miracle Shot, it needs to be added in fresh at the time of colour and used straight away.

Mix your colour (tube A) into the activator (bottle B), then add the full contents of your Shade Shot into bottle B, then add in the full contents of the Miracle Shot into bottle B. Shake the bottle to mix fully and then apply.
For best results use a bowl and brush to mix the components together to ensure that everything is combined.

To get the maximum benefit from the Miracle Shot, you will need to add in the whole vial per colour application.

The Miracle Shot does not contain extreme allergens found in hair dyes, so you do not need to add the Miracle Shot to your Allergy Alert Test.

The Miracle System also includes a Permanent Colour and a Shade Shot which do require Allergy Alert Tests before using each time.

The Miracle Shot has been designed to work as part of the 3-step Miracle System or in combination with Josh Wood Colour Permanent Colour kits as a the Miracle Kit.

It is not designed to work with any other product.

No - we are resolutely against animal testing.

All of our products comply with European Cosmetic Regulations, which prohibit both the testing of cosmetic products, and ingredients for use in cosmetic products, on animals.

We're also really happy to confirm that all of our product formulations are vegetarian-friendly.

With the exception of our Permanent Colour kits and Root Markers, which contain beeswax, all products are also vegan-friendly.

Our products do not contain PPD.

Some of our products (our permanent colours) do contain an ingredient called toluene-2,5-diamine sulphate (also known as PTD). 

PTD has a similar chemical structure to PPD and works in a similar way to activate the colouring pigments for permanent hair colour. There is some evidence to suggest that PTD causes fewer allergic reactions than PPD, but a small number of people can still experience a reaction to this ingredient and that is why it is very important to carry out an Allergy Alert Test 48 hours before using the product every time you colour your hair.

Our semi permanent root cover products and Glosses do not contain phenylene diamines. Please note our glosses are not designed to cover grey but instead designed to deep condition and give amazing tone.  Our root touch up products are direct dyes that are designed to last up to 3 washes.
