Hair care routine:
Noemie says “Afro hair has an irregular structure of the hair fibre that makes it more fragile and prone to breakage from daily styling, brushing, and even sleeping.” She advises being gentle while detangling and using a satin or silk bonnet or scarf to protect your hair from the friction at night.
Noemie stresses that for afro hair, moisture is key, from a moisturising shampoo like the Miracle Shampoo to deep conditioning mask like the Miracle Mask and styling product applied on really wet hair to help lock the moisture in.
Haircare products:
Noemie states that a weekly shampoo is ideal, not too often to avoid stripping your hair and scalp from its natural oil but also often enough to keep your scalp clean and healthy. Also wash your hair with a cleansing shampoo like the Miracle Shampoo once a month to get rid of all the buildup of oil and styling products accumulated in your hair.
Samuel also recommends using a colour protecting shampoo and conditioner like the Miracle Shampoo and Conditioner from Josh Wood Colour is a must to help protect your hair from any dullness you’re feeling with your hair in the colder months. This also helps to aid with smoothness during the Autumn/Winter months and keep your colour looking vibrant during the colder months.
He also says that in order to fight the frizz from damp hair and central heating, you should use hair oils as often as you should to keep the hair looking as glossy and shiny as you can. The Miracle Hair Oil from Josh Wood Colour helps to do this whilst also not weighing down your hair and curls due to the lightweight formula.
For further frizz protection, he recommends using an anti-humidity spray to help create a barrier for the frizz to make sure your curls and coils stay hydrated throughout the autumn winter months.
Regular trims are the way!
Noemie says that because Afro hair usually has thinner hair strands making it more prone to breakage. Get a haircut regularly, ideally every 3 months. Because of the curls and coils your hair might not appear longer but your ends will need some TLC, getting a regular trim will stop your hair from breaking.
Your hair also needs Vitamin D!
Samuel advises that if you find your hair is lacking growth during Autumn/Winter time this could be due to a lack of vitamin D. To remedy this you could take some hair supplements that would help restore the bodies vitamins in it so you’re still getting that good dose of Vitamin D to make sure your hair, skin and nails are still getting the nutrients you need.
